In order to better analyse how corporations may impact on Social Responsibility, we will challenge the participants to answer 6 questions about such an important topic. Each team will work and elaborate a proposal to be discussed among their Section Teams, answering one out of the six questions presented.

 

Questions

  1. Explore the assumptions behind the concept of the Corporation as a Social Entity. Are they the same in every country? Should they be? How should a multinational corporation handle itself? Analyze it using the present financial crisis as an example.
  2. Each corporation serves a different social function. Is there a way to judge it? How could we, as a society, determine if a company has an invalid/ilegitimate social function? What is the social function of an investment bank and how could we analyze the present financial crisis with this concepts?
  3. External Social Responsibility. Explore the practical applications of the concept. Is it a matter of the Government or should it be part of the Corporation's Strategy? May one company be able to demand it from other companies, any non-government organization, or just the Government?
  4. External Social Responsibility. How to implement it? Where to exercise it? (Explore the notions of countries-boundaries and social-boundaries. How long? Could it be demanded from all the employees or just the Top Management? In a crisis as the present one, who should be held responsible (managers, government, society)?
  5. Internal Social Responsibility. What would be the difference between this concept and the External Social Responsibility? How is it related to productivity and growth? Explore the assumptions that may sustain it inside the corporation.
  6. Internal Social Responsibility. How is it related to Corporation Governance? Does it imply participation? To what extent? How could this concept transform a succesful organization? Had it been possible to implement it in a financial organization such as the ones in crisis, right now?
